Time to modernize Hawai‘i’s agriculture quarantine

You may be shocked to learn that Hawai‘i farmers face $760 million in lost revenue opportunities every year — more than the state’s total agricultural sales of $673 million in 2022. This is because of an outdated quarantine restriction the federal government imposed on the state in 1912.

Cost of Hawai‘i’s Car-Centric Transportation System Mounts

A new report released by Ulupono Initiative and global consulting firm ICF paints a daunting picture of how much the vehicle-based transportation system costs Hawai‘i residents. A hefty $27.4 billion is going into the state’s vehicle economy–which includes roadways, bridges, vehicles, parking and societal costs – a huge strain on household budgets that are already stretched thin.

New options for Hawai‘i student transportation for 2025-26 School Year

In preparation for the upcoming school year, the Hawai‘i Department of Education announced programs to tackle its school bus driver shortage. The programs will help families plan their child’s transportation needs while providing clean transportation choices — which Ulupono Initiative strongly supports.
