Caroline Julian-Freitas

“Being born and raised in Hawaii, I always felt a responsibility to give back to my community.  I am fortunate to work at the Ulupono Initiative, whose values seek to improve the quality of life through its sustainability and resiliency mission.  The work we do cohesively aligns with my values of service and making Hawaii a better place to live for my family, friends and all of its residents. I recognize that the work we do today is significant to ensure a sustainable future for my children, their children, and Hawaii’s future generations. The time is now for all of us to create a stronger and resilient Hawaii."

As the director of communications and community, Caroline is responsible for managing all communications campaigns and programs in support of Ulupono’s mission to improve the quality of life for the people of Hawaii through sustainable solutions that support and promote locally produced food, renewable energy, clean transportation, and better management of freshwater resources.

Caroline joined Ulupono Initiative in July 2022 and has more than a decade of experience working in the government sector. Caroline’s extensive experience includes serving as the director of communications for the State of Hawaii’s Office of the Lieutenant Governor, Hawaii State Senate director of communications, and the senior communications manager for the State Office of Enterprise Technology Services. Before her experience in government, Caroline worked as a broadcast journalist at television stations in Hawaii and the ABC News Network.

Caroline is a proud graduate of the University of Hawai’i School of Journalism and lives in Honolulu with her husband and two children.

Outside the Office

#MOMLIFE is the hashtag that best describes me outside of the office.  I truly love being involved in every aspect of my children’s sports, activities, school and everything else that keeps us busy.
