Nov 25, 2024

We congratulate Ulupono’s Initiative’s own Micah Munekata, director of government affairs, on being awarded Outstanding Friend of Farmer by the Hawaiʻi Farm Bureau (HFB) — a recognition he earned for his dedication and support of our local agriculture community. The award was presented to Munekata at the 77th Annual Hawaiʻi Farm Bureau Convention in October.

Rep. Kyle Yamashita and Sen. Donovan Dela Cruz received the organization’s Legislator of the Year accolade. In addition, Alan Takemoto, Bayer’s government affairs manager, was honored with the Outstanding Active Member award.

“This well-deserved recognition highlights Micah’s unwavering dedication to Hawaiʻi’s agriculture community,” said Brian Miyamoto, HFB executive director. “His leadership, advocacy, and collaborative spirit have been instrumental in supporting local farmers and advancing initiatives that strengthen our state’s food security and sustainability. Mahalo, Micah, for your commitment to Hawaiʻi agriculture."

During the annual convention, Hawaiʻi’s agriculture community gather to tackle pressing challenges facing our islands’ farms. From impactful policy discussions to hands-on farm tours showcasing local innovation, industry leaders united with a shared vision for a sustainable agriculture future. The awards portion of the event recognizes HFB’s outstanding members in three categories for their work during the previous year.

“We recognize deserving individuals and families who have made exceptional contributions to HFB and Hawaiʻi's agricultural industry,” Miyamoto added. “The various county farm bureaus submit nominees for consideration and the state board selects the recipients.”
