Award-winning author and professor of political science and environmental studies at the University of California Santa Barbara Dr. Leah Stokes was the key speaker at the most recent edition of the University of Hawaii at Manoa's Better Tomorrow Speaker Series. The April 21 lecture, titled “Our Clean Energy Future: The Case for A Faster, Bolder Transition,” was held at UH Manoa’s Art Auditorium and attended by academics, policymakers, and community stakeholders, all gathered to discuss clean energy initiatives in Hawaiʻi and around the globe.

With speakers for the evening including Gov. David Ige and Blue Planet Foundation Executive Director Melissa Miyashiro, the discussion emphasized the critical importance of preventing global temperatures from rising more than 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit. Dr. Stokes' presentation focused on combating global warming by recommending Hawaii quickly electrify itself and implement policy at the county, state, and federal levels to set a clean energy precedent.

As one of the sponsors of the Better Tomorrow Speaker Series, Ulupono Initiative remains committed to creating a space for conversations focused on evolving the energy sector with industry, political, and community stakeholders.
