Join the Multimodal Movement – Bike
Feb 28, 2023
In this month’s Multimodal Monday episode on KITV’s Island Life program, we feature the bike as a multimodal choice of transportation. Honolulu resident Malia Harunaga talks about all the benefits of riding her bike from home to work and for her multiple stops and errands. Meanwhile, Daniel Alexander, City and County of Honolulu Vision Zero coordinator, says more than 5,000 people use bikes to commute on Oahu and explains what they’re doing to make it safer for cyclists.
This year-long Island Life Multimodal Monday series, which kicked off last month, highlight the benefits of using multimodal transportation choices, such as a bus, bicycle and rideshare, among others. Viewers will see how everyday multimodal transportation users go about their day without driving a car and how it wasn’t difficult making the choice, which helps to reduce carbon emissions and traffic. Another major benefit of not owning a car: saving money on gas and maintenance. The average household’s cost of owning a car in Hawaii is $40,600 per year.
