Hawaiʻi celebrates National Drive Electric Month this September

Aug 26, 2025

From Sept. 12 to Oct. 12, communities across Hawaiʻi will join the nationwide celebration of National Drive Electric Month. Sponsored locally by Ulupono Initiative, the series of events will highlight the benefits of electric cars, trucks, motorcycles, e-bikes, and more. Attendees will be able to see the latest models up close, take a ride or drive when available, and hear directly from people who have made the switch to electric.

The Hawaiʻi EV Association’s island chapters are organizing events across the state:

  • Oʻahu – Saturday, Sept. 13 at Pearlridge Center
  • Hawaiʻi Island – Saturday, Sept. 27 at Prince Kūhio Plaza in Hilo
  • Maui – Saturday, Oct. 4, University of Hawaiʻi Maui Campus Charging Station

Plans for Kauaʻi are being finalized, with announcements to follow.

Events will showcase the newest EV technology and give attendees a chance to:

  • Learn about charging at home and on the go
  • Talk with EV owners about real-world costs, range, and maintenance
  • Find out about state and federal incentives for EVs, e-bikes, chargers, and renewable energy
  • Explore the environmental benefits of replacing gas-powered vehicles with electric options

They will also feature activities for all ages, prize drawings, and booths from clean energy companies, utilities, and community groups. The atmosphere is open and welcoming, encouraging conversations and hands-on learning. People can compare models side by side, see how charging works, and discover the practical benefits of driving electric in Hawaiʻi.

National Drive Electric Month is coordinated nationally by Plug In America, the Electric Vehicle Association, Sierra Club, and EV Hybrid Noire. In Hawaiʻi, it is a collaboration between Ulupono Initiative, the Hawaiʻi EV Association chapters, and local partners.
