Inaugural ‘State of the Environment Hawai‘i 2016’ Report to debut in advance of World Conservation Congress

The Hawaiʻi Environmental Funders Group (EFG), convened and coordinated by the Hawai‘i Community Foundation, has today released Hawaiʻi’s first State of the Environment Report. “He Lono Moku*:  The State of the Environment Hawai‘i 2016” debuts in advance of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)’s quadrennial World Conservation Congress (WCC) (Honolulu, September 1-10) and highlights pressing issues and the greatest opportunities facing Hawai‘i’s environment.

Investment firm lends $3M to help Kona fish farm grow

A Hawaii investment firm focused on generating financial as well as social returns is putting some of its money into the local open-ocean fish farming industry.

Ulupono Initiative is lending Blue Ocean Mariculture LLC $3 million to help finance expansion of the fish farm that raises kahala, or almaco jack branded as Hawaiian Kampachi, in cages floating off Hawaii island’s Kona Coast.

Farm To School Initiative Seeks Information From Local Farmers

Lt. Governor Shan Tsutsui is working collaboratively with the Hawaii State Department of Agriculture and Department of Education to gather information from the agriculture community for the Farm to School Initiative.  Farmers across the state are being asked to participate in a Request for Information (RFI) survey for the Initiative’s market research, beginning today, April 1.
