Ulupono Initiative Invests $175,000 in Volta Industries

Ulupono Initiative has invested $175,000 in Volta Industries to help expand its Hawaii network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. This investment will help Volta more than double its current network in Hawaii with 15 new free-to­‐use charging stations planned for 2013 statewide. To date, Volta and its sponsors have given away more than 120,000 miles of free charging to Hawaii EV drivers.

Local Food Coalition Works with Diverse Partners to Grow Hawaii's Local Food System

The Local Food Coalition (LFC) brings together farmers, ranchers, livestock producers, investors, food manufacturers and other leading organizations, who collectively manage more than 1 million acres of land, and produce the majority of food in our state.  Solving our challenge of increasing the local food supply — putting more local food on local plates — can best be accomplished by bringing people and organizations together who can work on the entire food value chain in a systematic way.

Hawaii Beef Producers Join Parker Ranch And Ulupono Initiative In Joint Development Agreement For Large-Scale Grass-Fed Beef Trials

Hawaii Beef Producers has joined Parker Ranch and Ulupono Initiative in an agreement to jointly fund pre-commercial trials for irrigated finish pasture beef production on the Big Island of Hawaii. The irrigated trials will be run on 70 acres of pasture next to the Hawaii Beef Producers processing facility on the Hamakua Coast and involve just under 100 head of cattle. The trials will be completed by May 2013.

Local Food Market Demand Study Confirms That Hawaii Residents Want More Locally Grown Products and Are Willing to Pay More For It

The Ulupono Initiative has released the results of a detailed consumer survey of nearly 1,200 shoppers across Oahu that reveals an overwhelming majority of residents believe buying local is very important. The results of the survey indicate that many residents are willing to pay more for some Hawaii-grown products.

Robbie Dingeman Joins the Ulupono Initiative

The Ulupono Initiative has announced that longtime Hawaii writer-reporter Robbie Dingeman has joined its organization as an associate. For more than 20 years, Dingeman has been a writer, news reporter and researcher in Hawaii. Most recently she served as a staff writer for The Honolulu Advertiser for 14 years.
