Hawaii Beef Producers Join Parker Ranch And Ulupono Initiative In Joint Development Agreement For Large-Scale Grass-Fed Beef Trials

Hawaii Beef Producers has joined Parker Ranch and Ulupono Initiative in an agreement to jointly fund pre-commercial trials for irrigated finish pasture beef production on the Big Island of Hawaii. The irrigated trials will be run on 70 acres of pasture next to the Hawaii Beef Producers processing facility on the Hamakua Coast and involve just under 100 head of cattle. The trials will be completed by May 2013.

Local Food Market Demand Study Confirms That Hawaii Residents Want More Locally Grown Products and Are Willing to Pay More For It

The Ulupono Initiative has released the results of a detailed consumer survey of nearly 1,200 shoppers across Oahu that reveals an overwhelming majority of residents believe buying local is very important. The results of the survey indicate that many residents are willing to pay more for some Hawaii-grown products.

Robbie Dingeman Joins the Ulupono Initiative

The Ulupono Initiative has announced that longtime Hawaii writer-reporter Robbie Dingeman has joined its organization as an associate. For more than 20 years, Dingeman has been a writer, news reporter and researcher in Hawaii. Most recently she served as a staff writer for The Honolulu Advertiser for 14 years.

Ulupono Initiative Launches to Catalyze Sustainability Efforts in Hawaii

eBay founder Pierre Omidyar and his wife Pam today announced the formation of the Ulupono Initiative, a social investment firm dedicated to improving the quality of life for Hawaii’s residents through sustainability. The organization will invest in local businesses and philanthropic organizations focused on renewable energy, local food production, and waste reduction. The Ulupono Initiative seeks to energize the state’s economy and increase its self-reliance through these investments. Local business executives Kyle Datta and Robin Campaniano will co-lead the Ulupono Initiative as general partners.
