Hawaii Beef Producers has joined Parker Ranch and Ulupono Initiative in an agreement to jointly fund pre-commercial trials for irrigated finish pasture beef production on the Big Island of Hawaii. The irrigated trials will be run on 70 acres of pasture next to the Hawaii Beef Producers processing facility on the Hamakua Coast and involve just under 100 head of cattle. The trials will be completed by May 2013.
Ulupono Initiative, a for-profit impact investment firm, is investing a total of $15 million over the next year to finance SolarCity solar power projects in Hawaii. The partnership is expected to increase Hawaii’s solar power generation by approximately five percent, and can be expanded over time.

The organization will invest in local businesses and philanthropic organizations focused on renewable energy, local food production, and waste reduction. The Ulupono Initiative seeks to energize the state’s economy and increase its self-reliance through these investments. Local business executives Kyle Datta and Robin Campaniano will co-lead the Ulupono Initiative as general partners.
