Following a successful grass-fed beef trial on Hawaii Island, Parker Ranch and Ulupono Initiative announced the launch of the Paniolo Cattle Company, a joint venture aimed at statewide local beef production. The pasture-to-table enterprise taps into a growing demand for high-quality, affordable, locally raised beef.
As part of its mission to increase local food production, Ulupono Initiative is investing $17.5 million to form Hawaii Dairy Farms, a grass-fed dairy that will be located on Kauai. Based on the New Zealand pastoral dairy model that uses grass as the primary feed source, this dairy will bring together suppliers with best-in-class capabilities to create an operation that will infuse more local, fresh milk into Hawaii’s dairy supply. The building permit applications have been filed and construction is anticipated to start in 2014.
Ulupono Initiative announced a strategic investment of $350,000 in Hawaii's emerging electric vehicle industry through OpConnect Hawaii, which is preparing to install Mark II charging stations throughout the state.
Ulupono Initiative announced today that it has invested $1 million in Honolulu Seawater Air Conditioning, LLC for the development of the company’s seawater air conditioning district cooling system.
Ulupono Initiative has invested $175,000 in Volta Industries to help expand its Hawaii network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. This investment will help Volta more than double its current network in Hawaii with 15 new free-to‐use charging stations planned for 2013 statewide. To date, Volta and its sponsors have given away more than 120,000 miles of free charging to Hawaii EV drivers.
