National Drive Electric Week wrapped up last week, with events across the United States held virtually, many for the first time ever, to adapt to COVID-19 safety and health requirements. Locally, Drive Electric Hawaii hosted several virtual events celebrating and bringing awareness to the importance of EV adoption, and local TV program HI Now promoted the benefits of driving electric.
In the last ten years there has been more innovation in Hawaii’s regulatory landscape than over the last century. Most recently, the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission (PUC) opened a proceeding to establish a portfolio of performance-based regulation (PBR) tools, updating the existing cost-of-service regulation framework, to deliver day-one savings to customers, and incentivize exemplary performance by the Hawaiian Electric Company in specific outcomes. These outcomes include increasing renewable energy integration, providing afforadable rates to customers, and improving customer service.
